Linked Work Experience
The centre aims to build bridges between the learners and employment placements in the Kilkenny region. By meeting potential employers and experiencing new work environments, learners can open doors and build a confidence and a CV that they can take with them as they advance to new opportunities, following on from their time in the centre.
Numeracy/Literacy
The centre provides additional support for learners in developing their numeracy and literacy skills through the Numeracy/Literacy department. This department is open to all students across all levels and courses within the centre.
Catering & Arts
Catering & Art: (Level 3) This unique course combines the skills needed for art and design, culinary operations and food preparation. Working in KEY’s art workshop and catering department, learners can experience both departments and can develop the skills and insight into each discipline while working towards an Employability Skills Award (Level 3). Modules include: • Art and Design • Drawing • Breakfast Cookery Other modules on offer at Level 3 include Communications, Computer Literacy, Career Preparation and Application of Numbers with the opportunity of a work placement during the course. All completed modules and training leads to an Employability Skills Award (Level 3)
Catering
Catering and Hospitality: (Level 3) This course covers the essential skills in food preparation, culinary operations, breakfast cookery and cake baking and decorating. Working in KEY’s professionally equipped catering department, learners can apply their new skills to the highest standard on a daily basis. Modules Include: • Culinary Operations • Breakfast Cookery • Cake Baking and Decorating • Induction Training Programme- Food Safety and You • Essential Food Safety & Hygiene Skills for Food Worker Other modules on offer at Level 3 include Communications, Computer Literacy, Career Preparation and Application of Numbers with the opportunity of a work placement during the course. All completed modules and training leads to an Employability Skills Award (Level 3)
Design and Graphics
Design and Graphics: (Level 4) Learners can develop the artistic and digital skills needed for graphic design, digital media projects, drawing and essential communication across mediums. Modules include: • Graphic Design • Digital Media • Drawing Other modules on offer at Level 4 include Communications, Work Experience, Computer Applications, Functional Maths, Personal Effectiveness and Business English among others. All completed modules and training leads to Pathway to Employment/General Learning (Level 4)
Information Technology
Information Technology and Office Skills: (Level 4) This course provides essential training in the knowledge of computer applications, reception and customer service skills, Information Technology and Business English skills and the opportunity to go on work placement. Upon completing the course, the learners are awarded an Office Skills Award (Level 4) Modules include: • Information Technology Skills • Reception Skills • Customer Service • Reception Skills • Business English • General Business Skills • Computer Applications Other modules on offer at Level 4 include Communications, Work Experience, Functional Maths and Personal Effectiveness. All completed modules and training leads to Office Skills Award (Level 4)
Hairdressing & Barbering
Hairdressing and Barbering: (Level 4) This VTCT-certified Diploma and Certificate educates learners in the art of dressing hair, colouring hair and cutting men’s hair. While working in KEY’s modern, fully equipped hair salon, learners can develop the essential skills and techniques, and gain first-hand experience of working in a hair salon with the opportunity of work placements in hair salons in Kilkenny. Diploma in Hairdressing Services Certificate in Barbering Course covering: • The art of dressing hair • The art of colouring hair • Cut men’s hair • Working in the hair industry Other modules on offer at Level 4 include Customer Service and Communications. All completed modules and training leads to VTCT Diploma in Hairdressing and Certificate in Barbering.
Woodwork
Woodwork Apprenticeship Ready: (Level 3) As part of the Level 3 Apprenticeship Ready course, learners can acquire valuable skills in woodwork, woodturning, construction and technical drawing in KEY’s professionally equipped workshop. Modules include: • Woodwork • Woodturning • Construction Skills • Technical Drawing Other modules on offer at Level 3 include Communications, Computer Literacy, Career Preparation and Application of Numbers with the opportunity of a work placement during the course.
